CUA, Knights of Columbus Dedicate Campus Building

The heart of Catholic University’s campus was reborn Monday, Sept. 8, as McGivney Hall was dedicated in a ceremony attended by members of the CUA and John Paul II Institute community and the Knights of Columbus.

Most Rev. Donald W. Wuerl, archbishop of Washington and chancellor of Catholic University; Most Rev. William E. Lori, bishop of Bridgeport, Conn., and chairman of CUA’s Board of Trustees; Very Rev. David M. O’Connell, C.M., president of Catholic University; and Carl A. Anderson, Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus, abd David L. Schindler, Dean of the John Paul II Institute participated in a program that included the blessing of the building and remarks and prayers for the occasion.

The Knights of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal organization with deep historical ties to CUA, and whose Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson served as founding dean, donated $8 million to renovate the building, which is named in honor of Knights founder Rev. Michael J. McGivney.

The limestone McGivney Hall, vacant for a dozen years, is the new home to the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family, a graduate school of theology affiliated with both CUA and the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome.
