Nash Suspended for altercation againist the Rockets



Phoenix Suns forward Matt Barnes and Houston Rockets guard Rafer Alston have each been suspended two games without pay for their participation in an altercation on November 12. Suns guard Steve Nash has been suspended for one game without pay for escalating the altercation, Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President Basketball Operations, announced today.

In addition, Suns center Shaquille O’Neal has been fined $35,000 and Rockets guard Tracy McGrady $25,000 for their roles in the altercation. The incident occurred with 27.6 remaining in the third period of the Sun’s 94-82 loss to the Rockets on November 12.

Alston will serve his suspension beginning tonight when the Rockets visit the San Antonio Spurs at the AT&T Center and will serve the remainder of his suspension when the Rockets host the New Orleans Hornets on Saturday, November 15.

Barnes will begin serving his suspension this evening when the Suns travel to Sacramento to face the Kings at ARCO Arena. Nash will also sit out tonight’s game serving his one game suspension.

Barnes will serve his second game of the suspension on Sunday, November 16, when the Suns host the Detroit Pistons at US Airways Center.

The Suns will also be without the services of guard Leandro Barbosa, who left the team to fly home to Brazil after the passing of his mother.
