
Canada’s women’s under-20 team won the Torneo 4-Naciones in Melipilla, Chile after finishing first with seven points. Canada jumped ahead of hosts Chile with a 1:0 victory on the final day of the tournament.
Chile finished in second place with six points while New Zealand finished in third place with four points. Mexico, who lost 0:3 to New Zealand on the final day, finished last with no points.
Canada, whose title sponsor is Winners, posted a 2:1 win over Mexico, a 1:1 draw with New Zealand, and a 1:0 win over Chile. Against Chile, Jonelle Filigno scored the winning goal while Erin McNulty posted the clean sheet. Canada remains unbeaten in 2008, improving its record to eight wins and two draws.
Canada has been in Chile for more than a week preparing for this autumn’s FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Chile 2008. Just last week in Santiago, Canada was drawn into Group C with Germany, Congo DR and Japan.
